-
- Was there an oddish odor? Sort of a cross between hot kraft paper and
- antifreeze? Well,, actually, at its age, prolly not much antifreeze left in
- the old girls capacitors.
-
- Theres basicly 2 ways for it to "pop", one is high voltage breakdowns, the
- other is a dried out capacitor in the h-scan circuitry that lost its
- farads, got hot and blew its top. Fuses rarely make a noticable noise when
- they blow unless a measurable percentage of Mon Powers output was
- interrupted. The hi-voltage breakdown (usually dirt on the tube) isn't
- normally deadly on the first shot either. Thats why I'd tend to want you
- to send it to the shop and let a tech snoop for blown cap tops. And, even
- after 11 years here, I still don't have a "recommended shop" to point you
- at. Ask around, I'm sure theres somebody in Morgantown that can do it.
- Good luck!
